The Chief Minister further noted, "Additionally, all new applications submitted by purohits and muezzins have received approval from the state government."
As per Chief Minister Banerjee, the West Bengal government is dedicated to ensuring that these individuals receive the recognition and support they rightfully deserve from the administration.
"We take pride in fostering a climate where every community and tradition is respected and fortified. Our commitment remains to ensure that the guardians of our rich spiritual heritage are acknowledged and supported adequately," she added.
Over the years, the administration led by Mamata Banerjee has regularly enhanced the monthly stipends for purohits and muezzins.
This latest increase was announced shortly before the Election Commission was set to declare the poll notification for West Bengal along with three other states.
With the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) set to activate immediately upon the issuance of the poll notification, governments in states facing elections are restricted from making new announcements that benefit the populace.
By making this announcement prior to the poll notification, the state government has effectively ensured compliance with MCC regulations.
The Election Commission officials revealed the poll notification for West Bengal and other states during a press conference in Delhi at 4 p.m.
Once the notification is published, the MCC goes into effect immediately.
