Did Humayun Kabir Just Become BJP's Agent?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) The recent announcement by suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir to lay the foundation stone for a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad, West Bengal, has ignited a fierce political controversy. Both the Congress and the Samajwadi Party have labeled him an 'agent of the BJP', accusing him of instigating division through the introduction of religious topics into the political arena.
This announcement is particularly poignant as it coincides with the 33rd anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, heightening the sensitivity surrounding this issue.
Kabir's declaration to initiate the foundation stone laying on December 6 was met with immediate backlash, prompting Raj Bhawan to express concerns regarding law and order.
This incident culminated in his suspension from the Trinamool Congress.
Both parties have condemned his actions, asserting that he is 'spreading hatred in the nation' at a time when communal tensions are already high.
In remarks to IANS, Congress MP Imran Masood stated, 'Consider Humayun Kabir's track record—he is a BJP agent. He contested the 2019 elections on a BJP ticket and is now mimicking BJP tactics by fostering discord in the country. A mosque is a sacred place. If he were a genuine Muslim, why would he have run on a BJP ticket in 2019?'
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Abbas Haider also expressed strong disapproval, stating, 'A mosque serves as a place of worship, just like a temple. Utilizing these for political gain is utterly unacceptable. No one should politicize such matters. The Samajwadi Party refrains from engaging in politics surrounding these issues and does not support those who do.'
Haider noted that Kabir has received multiple notices from the Trinamool Congress for his statements and added, 'At a time when the BJP is focused on fragmenting the nation, individuals like Kabir are merely aiding that agenda.'
Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai stressed the need for unity, urging a collective focus on national priorities.
'This country needs to advance together. We must unite to tackle pressing issues like education, unemployment, inflation, and corruption,' he conveyed to IANS.
