Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 11 (NationPress) Suspended Trinamool Congress leader and Janata Unnayan Party (JUP) chief Humayun Kabir on Wednesday laid bricks at the site of the proposed 'Babri'-style mosque in Rejinagar, located in Murshidabad district.
The Bharatpur MLA stood at the foundation site, issuing a warning of an impending siege of the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) on February 14.
On the evening prior, the Bharatpur MLA accused the Murshidabad Superintendent of Police of hiring a contract killer with intentions to eliminate him. Consequently, Humayun Kabir threatened that a gathering of one lakh supporters would encircle the SP's office.
It is noteworthy that Humayun Kabir's envisioned 'Babri'-style mosque is set to be constructed on an expanse of 11 bighas. A substantial quantity of bricks, cement, sand, and iron rods have already been delivered to the site since the foundation stone was laid last December.
While standing on the mosque premises, Janata Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir reaffirmed his intention to mobilize one lakh supporters to surround the District Superintendent of Police's office on February 14.
He declared: “On February 14, the SP office will be surrounded from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. I will not give any notice. I will take one lakh people.”
Additionally, Humayun Kabir announced plans for a procession on Thursday morning, which is expected to commence from the mosque premises and advance towards the Beldanga Barua intersection.
Construction of the mosque began on Wednesday, with the suspended Trinamool leader stating that the project is anticipated to take two years to complete.
Meanwhile, lorries transporting construction materials faced delays along the National Highway starting at 9 a.m. District Superintendent of Police Dhritiman Sarkar commented: “The lorries carrying goods were parked on the side of the National Highway in Berhampur. There was heavy police deployment. No untoward incident took place.”
Humayun Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress after he chose to lay the foundation stone of the ‘Babri Masjid’-styled mosque in Murshidabad district’s Beldanga. The event occurred on December 6, amid expressed concerns from the Trinamool Congress leadership.
