Cyberabad Police on Wednesday, 10 June 2026 cracked the murder of Mina Devi (36), arresting her husband Anil Kumar Sah — a Bihar native — who allegedly paid ₹2 lakh to a hired gang to kill her on the outskirts of Gandigudam village in the limits of IDA Bollaram Police Station. One member of the contracted gang has also been taken into custody.

How the Murder Was Executed

According to investigators, the killing took place on the night of 30 May 2026. Anil Kumar Sah had initially told police that while he and his wife were returning home on his bike from a vegetable market, the vehicle broke down near a meter factory. He claimed three unknown men emerged from roadside bushes, dragged Mina Devi away, and killed her — and that he sustained injuries trying to intervene.

However, police say this account was fabricated. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ch. Srinivas told reporters that Sah deliberately inflicted superficial cut injuries on his own hands and back to simulate a scuffle and mislead investigators.

The Hired Gang and the Plan

Investigation revealed that Sah knew gang leader Rinku Kumar and his criminal background. He offered Rinku ₹2 lakh to carry out the killing. Rinku, along with associates Ranjan and Neeraj, travelled to Hyderabad on 29 May 2026, met Sah, finalised the plan, and executed it the following night. After committing the crime, the gang took Sah's bike, abandoned it on the city outskirts, and fled to Bihar by private bus.

What Triggered the Plot

According to police, Sah harboured a long-standing grudge against his wife. Investigators say Mina Devi had allegedly been directing his earnings to her parents for three years. After Sah met with an accident and became physically weakened, he reportedly felt neglected by her — a combination of grievances that, according to the investigation, led him to plan her elimination.

Arrests and Ongoing Manhunt

Following a complaint lodged by the deceased's brother, Sonu Lal Kumar, police formed eight teams to investigate. Gang member Ranjan was arrested at his native place in Chanpatia, Bettiah district, West Champaran, and brought back on a transit warrant. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused, Rinku Kumar and Neeraj, who remain at large.

The case underscores the growing challenge of contract killings that cross state lines, and investigators say inter-state coordination was key to breaking the case open.

Point of View

Rehearsed deception. More broadly, contract killings routed through inter-state criminal networks are an escalating challenge for urban police forces; the Bihar connection here is not incidental. That eight teams were needed to crack what was ultimately a domestic murder-for-hire speaks to how resource-intensive these cases are. With two accused still at large, the investigation is not over.
