Hyderabad, Aug 31 (NationPress) Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, stated on Sunday that the Hyderabad Liberation Day will be commemorated in an elaborate fashion on September 17.
Union Minister Bandi Sanjay and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy utilized their social media presence to respond to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' address, during which he acknowledged the valor displayed by the armed forces during Operation Polo that liberated the former Hyderabad State.
Bandi Sanjay remarked that the Hyderabad State, previously under the oppressive rule of the Nizam, was integrated into India by the 'Iron Man' Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel through Operation Polo in a remarkably brief period.
"We will celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day magnificently in September. It is crucial to honor the heroes who played a role in Operation Polo," he emphasized.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy expressed that the Prime Minister paid tribute to the selfless sacrifices of the citizens of Hyderabad, praising the Operation Polo led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which resulted in the liberation of Hyderabad from the tyrannical Nizam.
"The PM acknowledged how Hyderabad had to wait until September 17, 1948, to truly celebrate its independence, echoing the sentiments of the 'Iron Man of India' Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel," he stated.
"He remembered the bravery exhibited by our forces during Operation Polo. Our Government's choice to observe September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day has been profoundly appreciated, particularly by the people of Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra," the Prime Minister posted on X.
In his address on the monthly radio show 'Mann ki Baat', Prime Minister Modi presented a recording of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's voice.
"You can sense the anguish in his words as he recounts the events in Hyderabad. Next month in September, we will also be recognizing Hyderabad Liberation Day. This month is a time to remember the gallantry of all those courageous individuals who participated in Operation Polo," the Prime Minister noted.
"As we all know, when India gained independence in August 1947, Hyderabad was facing a different reality. The atrocities committed by the Nizam and the Razakars escalated daily. Even raising the Tricolor or uttering 'Vande Mataram' could endanger one's life. Women and the impoverished faced oppression," he added.
"At that moment, Babasaheb Ambedkar warned that this issue was becoming increasingly serious. Eventually, Sardar Patel took decisive action. He mobilized the government to commence Operation Polo. In record time, our armed forces liberated Hyderabad from the Nizam's oppression and unified it with Bharat. The entire nation rejoiced in this monumental victory," he said.
The Union government had previously decided to celebrate September 17 annually as Hyderabad Liberation Day.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an official gazette notification regarding this.
