Hyderabad, March 26 (NationPress) A court in Hyderabad has handed a life sentence to a temple priest for the murder of a 30-year-old woman with whom he was engaged in an extramarital affair.
Ayyagari Venkata Surya Sai Krishna, who served as a priest at a temple in Saroornagar, took the life of the woman in 2023 after she began insisting that he marry her. He disposed of her body in a manhole located behind the Maisamma temple, where he worked.
The Rangareddy district court convicted Venkata Sai of the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
In addition, the court imposed a seven-year sentence for tampering with evidence and levied a fine of Rs 10,000.
The Shamshabad police presented compelling evidence during the trial, which led to the priest's conviction and subsequent sentencing.
The harrowing murder of the young woman was uncovered on June 9, 2023.
The accused, who was already married and had two children, was in a relationship with Apsara, a resident of Saroornagar. As she pressured him to marry her, he devised a plan to end her life.
According to police reports, he transported Apsara to Sultanpalli in Shamshabad on June 3. Following a heated dispute regarding her marriage proposal, he brutally killed her by striking her head with a boulder. He then concealed her body in a bag, placed it in his car, and returned to Saroornagar, where he discarded it in a manhole.
Subsequently, he reported to the Shamshabad police that his relative Apsara had vanished after he dropped her off at the airport. He claimed she had stopped answering her phone starting June 4, and that her phone was later turned off. The police opened an investigation.
After reviewing CCTV footage and analyzing mobile data, authorities discovered that the individual who filed the complaint was, in fact, the murderer. Following his arrest, he confessed to the crime during police questioning.
