Hyderabad, Jan 13 (NationPress) The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) successfully gathered 88 tonnes of electronic waste during a special two-day drive that wrapped up on Tuesday.
The initiative involved the collection of e-waste at 531 locations utilizing 191 dedicated vehicles, as stated by GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan.
On the first day, officials managed to cover 271 locations, deploying 95 vehicles and collecting 47 tonnes of e-waste.
On the second day, operations extended to 260 locations, where 96 vehicles collected 41 tonnes of e-waste.
Commissioner Karnan visited various e-waste collection camps to oversee the arrangements for the collection and scientific disposal of electronic waste.
As per the officials, the gathered electronic waste is being sent to authorized processing facilities for proper handling and disposal.
This special initiative aimed not only at e-waste collection but also at raising awareness among citizens regarding the detrimental effects of e-waste.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the residents of Hyderabad for their active participation and praised the dedicated efforts of the officers and field staff who ensured a smooth collection and scientific disposal of e-waste.
In light of numerous requests from citizens for an extension of the e-waste collection drive, the GHMC plans to establish regular e-waste collection arrangements across the city. Relevant communications will be sent to the public regarding this.
Additionally, the GHMC is continuing its special sanitation drive for the 13th consecutive day. The municipal body reported that 4,864 tonnes of waste has been removed over the past 13 days.
This intensive sanitation drive is being conducted in all 3,034 areas, including points, foot overbridges, flyovers, garbage-prone areas, and parks throughout the 300 wards of the GHMC.
Thus far, an additional 3,609 tonnes of municipal waste and 1,255 tonnes of construction waste have been cleared.
Both initiatives are under the vigilant supervision of the Zonal Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners.
