Hyderabad, June 3 (NationPress) The Hyderabad Police have established a specialized unit comprising 35 women constables tasked with managing female protestors during demonstrations in the city.
Police Commissioner C.V. Anand pointed out that dharnas, rallies, and protests are common in Hyderabad, making the arrest of women during these events quite challenging.
He mentioned that the local police have faced obstacles in addressing the actions of female agitators amid the numerous protests and rallies that occur daily in the city.
Recognizing that the women officers lacked adequate training for such situations, a unit of 35 newly recruited women constables has been assembled at the Hyderabad Police Headquarters. This unit has been officially designated as the Swift Women Action Team (SWAT).
According to the Commissioner, these women constables have received specialized training in self-defense, including Krav Maga, and techniques for managing and transporting resistant women protestors.
He indicated that there are plans to recruit additional personnel soon, expanding the team into two platoons with a total strength of 42 members. He expressed his appreciation for the officers and all team members who have diligently prepared the Swift Women Action Team.
In related news, the Police Commissioner visited the Goshamahal police complex on Tuesday to supervise the relocation of a 50-horse Mounted Platoon to temporary stables due to the construction of a new Osmania General Hospital.
The new hospital will be built on 25 acres, with the government allocating Rs 55 crore to the police department for the construction of a new complex on the remaining 11.5 acres. This complex will include a horse stable, dog kennels, a City Security Wing, a six-floor storage facility for seized vehicles, a parade and football ground, and a martyrs memorial. Thirty dogs have been temporarily housed in the vacant Begumpet police quarters.
Additionally, the Police Commissioner inspected the Ram Gopal Pet Police Station building located on James Street in Secunderabad. He announced that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had completed renovations and handed the building back to the Hyderabad City Police.
The Commissioner highlighted that the James Street Police Station, established in 1900, served as the Ram Gopal Pet Police Station for 116 years until 2016. Due to necessary repairs, it was relocated to a rented facility on Minister Road nine years ago. He reminisced about organizing numerous programs from this historic building during his time as DCP Central Zone, underlining its unique importance.
Commissioner Anand stated that in the near future, items belonging to the Ram Gopal Pet Police Station will be transferred back to this building, which will be inaugurated by the In-charge Minister for Hyderabad District, Ponnam Prabhakar.
The Commissioner also mentioned that the Commissioner's office in Purani Haveli, which belongs to the Hyderabad City Police, has been undergoing renovations for the past three years and is nearing completion. He added that once operational, he plans to fulfill his duties from there every Friday.
