New Delhi, Aug 9 (NationPress) Following the announcement by Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh in Bengaluru on Saturday, it was revealed that the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) S-400 air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed five Pakistani fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. Esteemed defence analyst Major General (Retd) P.K. Sehgal praised this accomplishment, describing it as a significant strike against Pakistan’s aerial capabilities.
Sehgal affirmed the Air Chief's remarks were “entirely accurate,” noting that the IAF's S-400 systems boast an impressive range of 300 kilometres and played a crucial role in neutralising enemy aircraft throughout the operation.
“Five Pakistani aircraft were eliminated—a situation even acknowledged by US President Donald Trump in his address, though the specific nationality was not disclosed. It is now unequivocally established that these were indeed Pakistani jets,” he commented.
Sehgal assessed that Pakistan experienced “serious and irreversible” losses during Operation Sindoor, with numerous airbases rendered non-operational, notably the strategic Noor Khan Airbase. “Thirteen of their airbases sustained significant damage. Even now, their aerial assets are in dire straits,” he remarked.
Emphasising the operational success, Sehgal commended the political leadership for its resolute stance, asserting that there were no “constraints or limitations” on military actions. “The cooperation and integration exhibited were nothing short of a dream realised. The contribution of the Chief of Defence Staff was exceptional, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s role was profoundly impactful,” he stated.
He further noted that Pakistan's offensive strategies were entirely thwarted during the operation. “None of their drones or aerial assaults were successful. Not a single Rafale was shot down, and we did not incur any pilot losses,” Sehgal remarked.
Labeling the outcome a “significant victory” for India, Sehgal underscored that the extent of Pakistan’s losses presents a formidable challenge for its military to recover. “This represents a substantial setback for them, and its repercussions will be felt for years to come,” he concluded.
