New Delhi, May 1 (NationPress) Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood announced that the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) has officially acquired 50 acres of land situated in Sector G-2/G-6, Narela Sub-city, to establish a new campus.
This significant announcement was made during the Foundation Day Ceremony and the 4th Research Excellence Awards of the university.
The allocation of land is part of the Delhi government’s ambitious Rs 500-crore initiative to develop an ‘Edu-City’ in the Narela area.
This achievement marks a crucial step toward the creation of IGDTUW’s long-awaited permanent campus, a project that is set to greatly enhance opportunities for women in science, technology, engineering, and innovation, as stated by an official.
“I am immensely pleased to announce that IGDTUW has officially taken possession of 50 acres in Narela. This development is a powerful indication of our unified commitment to empowering women through inclusive, high-quality technical education. With this land, IGDTUW is well-equipped to emerge as a leading institution not only in India but also globally in women-led innovation, research, and academic excellence,” said the Education Minister.
During the ceremony, Sood commended the university for its outstanding growth and contributions to technical education, research, and women’s empowerment.
“This is not merely a university; it symbolizes transformation — how young women, even with limited resources, are crafting narratives of excellence in laboratories, startups, and industries,” he remarked.
He also noted the university’s dedication to sustainability, praising its status as a zero-waste, zero-plastic campus. “It is encouraging to witness that the very principles IGDTUW imparts — of technology and sustainability — are being actively integrated into its daily operations,” he added.
The Minister further emphasized the institution’s impressive 100 percent placement record and significant achievements in research, which include 103 research awards, 19 patents, and research incentives totaling Rs 57 lakh awarded to students.
“Even while functioning from a small and older campus, IGDTUW now ranks among India’s top technical institutions. Its journey reflects the shared vision and dedication of its faculty, students, and administration,” he stated.
Sood noted the coincidence that all key positions including Delhi’s Chief Minister, Director of Technical Education, and IGDTUW’s Vice-Chancellor are held by women.
