IIGF 2024 Set to Commence in Delhi Tomorrow

New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) The India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) 2024 is slated to take place on December 9-10 at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan in the national capital, based on an official announcement made on Sunday.
Backed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), this initiative from India's multi-stakeholder community aims to delve into crucial aspects of Internet governance, encourage significant dialogue, and showcase India's leadership in the global digital arena.
The event will be inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, in the presence of S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY.
Following the success of the hybrid editions of IIGF in 2021, 2022, and 2023, this fourth edition will operate under the theme “Innovating Internet Governance for India”.
The forum will prioritize closing the digital divide, enhancing trust and safety in the online space, and utilizing advanced technologies for national development while underscoring the need for a secure, inclusive, and ethically managed Internet, as stated in the official announcement.
IIGF 2024 aims to tackle critical themes to promote a secure, inclusive, and sustainable digital ecosystem.
Discussions will concentrate on Empowering Connections, focusing on improved access, inclusivity, and digital rights to bridge the digital gap.
The forum will investigate Legal and Regulatory Frameworks to foster balanced, growth-oriented policies that enhance Internet governance.
Another significant area of focus is Responsible AI, advocating for the ethical and effective deployment of artificial intelligence for societal good.
Moreover, Building a Greener and Sustainable Internet will emphasize energy-efficient practices and environmental sustainability in the digital sphere, while Trust and Safety will address strategies to improve cybersecurity and elevate user confidence in the online space.
These extensive discussions will bring together stakeholders from diverse sectors to confront urgent challenges and seize opportunities in Internet governance, the announcement added.
The India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF) serves as the Indian branch of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF), a worldwide multi-stakeholder platform that facilitates dialogue on public policy matters related to the Internet.
Established in 2021, IIGF fosters collaborative discussions among representatives from government, civil society, industries, technical communities, think tanks, and industry associations.
Supported by a 14-member multi-stakeholder committee, IIGF aims to maximize the Internet's potential while addressing the associated challenges and risks.
Renowned for its inclusive and collaborative approach, IGF plays a crucial role in shaping policies for an open, secure, and accessible Internet, tackling issues such as cybersecurity, digital inclusion, data privacy, and emerging technologies.
