Khandwa, Jan 27 (NationPress) In a significant operation against the illegal firecracker trade, the Madhya Pradesh Police reported the seizure of string bombs, gunpowder, and other explosive substances valued at over 20 lakhs during a raid at an abandoned clubhouse in Khandwa district on Tuesday.
Authorities revealed that around 20 quintals of string bombs, gunpowder, and various materials essential for firecracker production were confiscated from a clandestine factory operating in a dilapidated building situated in a residential area near Sinhada village of Khandwa.
According to the police, this operation was initiated after receiving intelligence about suspicious activities in the colony. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Khandwa, Manoj Kumar Roy, stated that the police team first noticed a pickup vehicle entering the area.
“A pickup vehicle was observed, and two to three individuals were seen fleeing the scene. Upon investigating, police discovered numerous sacks filled with crude bombs (sutli bombs),” he explained.
After further searching, it was confirmed that the factory was indeed functioning within a rundown clubhouse located in the residential colony.
“During the inspection, a substantial stock of sutli bombs was uncovered inside the premises and on the roof, along with sulfur, ammonia, chemicals, raw materials, cartons, and various equipment necessary for producing explosives,” Roy informed the press.
Initial investigations indicated that the clubhouse was originally owned by Yashvant Silawat, who sold it to Imran a few years ago.
“We have learned that Imran, a local shopkeeper dealing in firecrackers, acquired the building. We are currently attempting to identify the present owner,” he added.
Roy further noted that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, and some unidentified individuals have been charged under relevant laws.
“We are optimistic that the suspects will be apprehended soon,” he remarked, emphasizing that this action is part of a targeted campaign against the illicit trade of explosive materials.
