New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) India and the European Union are poised to finalize the proposed free trade agreement possibly within this month, coinciding with the official visit of key EU leaders to New Delhi. These leaders are scheduled to be the chief guests at the esteemed Republic Day parade on January 26.

Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal informed reporters that both India and EU negotiators are nearing the completion of the trade agreement, with efforts underway to resolve remaining details ahead of the leadership meeting planned for January 27, following the Republic Day celebrations.

Agrawal noted that 20 out of 24 chapters of the India-EU FTA have been finalized, and discussions continue on the few outstanding issues.

European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit India from January 25 to 27. They will also participate in the 77th Republic Day festivities on January 26, leading into the India-EU Summit the following day.
