New Delhi, Sep 26 (NationPress) India and the United States have agreed to continue their collaborative efforts aimed at achieving the prompt finalization of a mutually advantageous Trade Agreement, as announced by the government on Friday.
A delegation led by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal visited the US from September 22-24.
The minister held discussions with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and US Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gor.
"In addition to meetings with US Government officials on bilateral trade issues, the delegation engaged with prominent US-based businesses and investors to enhance trade and investment between India and the United States," stated the Commerce and Industry Ministry.
The delegation experienced productive discussions with the Donald Trump administration regarding various facets of the agreement.
Both parties exchanged insights on the potential framework of the deal, deciding to pursue further engagements to aim for an early conclusion of this mutually beneficial Trade Agreement.
“The interactions with businesses and investors were met with a favorable response. Business leaders expressed confidence in the India growth narrative and indicated their eagerness to amplify their operations in India,” the official statement highlighted.
During his visit, Goyal also participated in a high-level session focused on energy security in New York, advocating for the expansion of India-US energy trade.
He discussed the potential for enhancing India-US energy collaboration and nuclear power as a viable clean energy option, alongside promoting innovations in renewable energy. The minister also called for global cooperation to ensure a secure and sustainable energy future, emphasizing India’s integrated national grid which ensures resilience and uninterrupted supply.
Goyal reiterated PM Modi’s vision of "One Sun, One World, One Grid," emphasizing India’s leadership in solar energy, the International Solar Alliance, and the nation’s achievements in renewable energy, underscoring India’s commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and affordable growth.
Earlier, he met with US Trade Representative Greer in New York to negotiate the initial phase of a trade agreement. This meeting concentrated on addressing critical sticking points, with both parties remaining optimistic about achieving an interim agreement soon.
