New Delhi, May 11 (NationPress) In a significant diplomatic and military rebuke, India has unveiled Pakistan's duplicity following its breach of a ceasefire agreement that was established by its own military leadership. The agreement, designed to halt four days of intense cross-border hostilities, was proposed by the Pakistani Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) during a direct hotline conversation with his Indian counterpart.
Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, India's DGMO, disclosed that the initiative to cease hostilities originated from Pakistan on May 10. "My communication with the Pakistani DGMO occurred at 15:35 hours yesterday (Saturday), leading to a cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side effective from 17:00 hrs, May 10, after he suggested we halt hostilities," Lt Gen Ghai noted during a press briefing on Sunday.
The ceasefire aimed to de-escalate tensions along the Line of Control and international border following the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists. This understanding was reached through bilateral discussions, without preconditions, demonstrating India's commitment to restoring peace after it dismantled significant terror camps in Pakistan and PoK.
Lt Gen Ghai further mentioned: "We also agreed to reconvene on May 12 at 12:00 hrs to discuss the details that would ensure the sustainability of this understanding."
However, in a turn of events that India deemed "sadly expected," Pakistan breached the ceasefire just hours after it took effect.
"As anticipated, it took only a few hours for the Pakistan Army to disregard these arrangements by engaging in cross-border and Line of Control firing, followed by drone intrusions last night and in the early hours of today," stated Lt Gen Ghai.
India reacted strongly to these provocations and lodged a formal protest with Pakistan through the hotline channel.
"Earlier today, we sent another hotline message to my counterpart outlining these violations of the understanding reached between the DGMOs on May 10 and our firm intent to respond vigorously if these actions are repeated tonight or later," he confirmed.
He also affirmed that "The Chief of Army Staff has granted full authority to our army commander for counteraction in case of any violation by Pakistan."
India has reiterated that while it values peace, it will not permit its goodwill to be manipulated.
