Is Maharashtra Leading the Charge in Supplying Skilled Workforce to Global Industries?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Sep 10 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared on Wednesday that the state is at the forefront of supplying essential skilled workforce to industries overseas.
He emphasized the importance of adapting training programs to meet the demands for skilled labor in international markets.
In addition to government-run industrial training institutes (ITIs), there is a need for a robust framework to enhance private industrial training institutes, the Chief Minister noted.
He urged that short-term courses offered through ITIs need to be executed more effectively.
During a review meeting for the Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department, he instructed that all memorandums of understanding (MoUs) established by the state administration undergo evaluation on the "Chief Minister dashboard".
CM Fadnavis pointed out that the department should initiate courses that align with current global demands for skilled labor.
"A systematic approach must be developed for executing the MoUs aimed at boosting employment. Digital tracking of a person’s journey from enrollment in a skill course to course completion is essential. Efforts should be made to elevate government ITIs into world-class skill centers. The skill development department should seek guidance from the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA)," he added.
Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha shared insights about various initiatives being executed by the department.
Courses such as solar technician, electric vehicle mechanic, additive manufacturing (3D Printing), drone technician, industrial robotics, and AI Programming Assistant will be introduced in ITIs.
Minister Lodha indicated that specialized courses will be designed for urban, rural, and tribal communities based on their specific needs.
Additional Chief Secretary Manisha Verma provided a presentation detailing the department's structure, plans, and current progress.
She also highlighted the innovative projects and success stories from the department.
During this event, the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training signed an MoU with Mahindra & Mahindra for various training initiatives.
Prafulla Pandey, Head of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, along with Lewis, Head of Mahindra & Mahindra Education Department, were present, according to government sources.
