New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed profound sorrow on the unfortunate passing of a female student from Nepal enrolled at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar. The Indian government emphasizes its commitment to the safety, security, and welfare of all international students.
"The MEA has maintained consistent communication with the Odisha State Government since the incident came to light. The Odisha authorities are fully supporting the family of the deceased, and a detailed investigation is underway by the Odisha Police," the statement from MEA stated.
"We are actively collaborating with the Nepali authorities, the Odisha State Government, and the management of KIIT to ensure effective coordination and communication regarding this matter," it further added.
Meanwhile, Nepal's Foreign Affairs Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, conveyed her deep sorrow over the student's death. Deuba indicated that the Foreign Ministry of Nepal has commenced diplomatic efforts to uncover the truth surrounding the incident through high-ranking officials from the Government of India, the Odisha government, and the Embassy of Nepal in Delhi.
"The shocking event involving Prisha Shah, a Nepali student studying at KIIT University in Odisha, who was found deceased in her hostel room, has deeply saddened us. I pray for Prisha's soul to find peace and extend my sincere condolences to her grieving family," she shared on X.
The Nepali Ambassador to India, Shankar P Sharma, also emphasized that the Embassy is working in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Odisha Government, police, and university authorities to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

The statement noted that information about the alleged suicide of the student from Nepal, who was in her first year of B. Tech in Computer Science at KIIT University, was reported by local police on Thursday.

"During this challenging time, the State Government offers its condolences and support to the family of the deceased. Upon receiving the information, senior officials, including the Commissioner of Police and Revenue Divisional Commissioner, immediately visited the site to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event and take necessary action. A forensic team has been dispatched to gather evidence," stated the Odisha Government.
