New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) On Saturday, India conveyed its appreciation to Armenia for aiding in the safe evacuation of its citizens from Iran, as efforts intensify to bring back nationals amidst the escalating conflict in West Asia.
The evacuation of Indian fishermen through Armenia signifies a crucial step in New Delhi’s ongoing initiative to guarantee the secure return of its citizens from the area.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar shared on X, “I extend my thanks to FM @AraratMirzoyan and the Government of Armenia for facilitating the evacuation of Indian fishermen today from Iran, via Armenia to India.”
With the situation worsening, numerous Indian citizens have been successfully evacuated from Iran into bordering Armenia in recent days. India has been working closely with local governments to secure safe transit routes for its nationals.
Earlier this week, India also expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its role in the evacuation process. During a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that around 204 Indian nationals had successfully crossed into Azerbaijan from Iran via the land border. He noted that while several evacuees have already returned to India, more are expected to arrive in the upcoming days.
“Azerbaijan… precisely 204 of our Indian nationals have managed to depart Iran for Azerbaijan through the land border. They will be returning home from there. Many have already returned; others are anticipated to return in the days ahead,” Jaiswal remarked.
India had previously acknowledged Armenia’s contribution to the evacuation efforts. On March 16, EAM Jaishankar thanked the Armenian government and its citizens for their assistance in the safe evacuation of over 550 Indian nationals from Iran, expressing gratitude for their ongoing support during these challenging times.
The current evacuation operations underscore India’s diplomatic engagement and coordination with various nations to protect its citizens amid rising tensions in West Asia.
