Indian Army Deploys Task Force for Coal Miner Rescue in Assam

Guwahati, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Indian Army has dispatched a relief task force to aid in the rescue of coal miners trapped in the Umrangshu region of Dima Hasao district, Assam, officials mentioned on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma requested the Army's support for the rescue operation.
A senior Army representative stated, "Upon receiving a request for assistance, the Indian Army has mobilised a relief task force aimed at rescuing the miners who are stuck in Umrangshu, a remote industrial area in Dima Hasao district, Assam."
The task force is outfitted with divers, sappers, and other essential equipment. The official elaborated, "The relief task force consists of specialists, including divers, sappers, and other relevant personnel, equipped with the necessary tools. Senior Indian Army officials will also arrive at the location to coordinate with local authorities for an expedited rescue of the trapped miners."
At least nine workers have been identified as being trapped in a coal mine located in Umrangshu, as stated by CM Sarma.
The state administration and police have initiated an operation to rescue the miners trapped underground.
According to police reports, the precise number of workers trapped inside the coal mine remains uncertain. Among the nine identified miners, one is a national from Nepal, another from West Bengal, while the remaining are from various regions of Assam. They include Ganga Bahadur Shreth, Hussain Ali, Jakir Hussain, Sarpa Barman, Mustafa Seikh, Khusi Mohan Rai, Sanjit Sarkar, Lijan Magar, and Sarat Goyary.
In a post on X, CM Sarma expressed, "We have sought the Army's assistance in the ongoing rescue efforts. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are also en route to the incident site to support the operation."
The Chief Minister has dispatched the District Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police of Dima Hasao district to the site. The Food and Civil Supply Minister, Kaushik Rai, is also heading to the location.
"Distressing news from Umrangshu, where workers are trapped in a coal mine. The exact number and condition remain unknown. The DC, SP, and my colleague, Shri Kaushik Rai, are heading to the site. Praying for everyone’s safety," Sarma mentioned in a post on X.
