Hyderabad, April 19 (NationPress) A squad from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended three officials of the Indian Bank, including the chief manager, in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly accepting a bribe, officials reported.

The arrested individuals, who were caught in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000, comprised the chief manager, a Clerk-cum-Cashier, and a gold appraiser, all working at the Eluru branch of Indian Bank.

The officials have been identified as Banavatu Nagu (Chief Manager), Annumalasetty N. Kumarm (Clerk-Cum-Cashier), and Krishna Prasad (Gold Appraiser), according to a statement released by the CBI.

On Saturday, CBI agents took them into custody after discovering that they had demanded and accepted Rs 25,000 from a complainant.

The investigation was initiated after the accused claimed they were coerced into paying Rs 25,000 in exchange for the approval of their sanctioned cash credit facility.

The complainant, who operates an auto agency in Eluru, had received approval for an OCC limit of Rs 50 lakh from the Narasimharaopeta Branch of Indian Bank, which he utilized for his business operations.

As per the complaint, the victim was on a trip to Rajasthan last month when he was contacted by bank officials, who stated that due to technical issues raised by the auditor during a visit to the bank, his account limit would be reduced from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 20 lakh or classified as NPA.

When the complainant sought clarification, the chief manager requested a bribe of Rs 50,000, calculated at Rs 1,000 per lakh, to maintain the proper functioning of his account. After negotiations, the chief manager consented to accept a lesser amount of Rs 30,000.

The CBI set up a trap and captured the chief manager, clerk-cum-cashier, and gold appraiser while they were in the process of demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant.

All three suspects were subsequently arrested and brought before a court in Vijayawada.
