New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu conveyed her heartfelt congratulations to the Indian Coast Guard as it commemorates its 50th Raising Day. She praised the force's pivotal role in protecting the nation's maritime interests and ensuring safety at sea.

Founded on February 1, 1977, the Indian Coast Guard serves as a maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency, operating within its territorial waters, including the contiguous zone and the exclusive economic zone.

The Indian Navy was the first to propose the establishment of the coast guard to facilitate non-military maritime services for the country.

In her message, President Murmu stated, "Throughout the past five decades, the Indian Coast Guard has been vital in defending our maritime interests, safeguarding our coastline, and ensuring maritime safety."

She emphasized, "The commitment and bravery of its personnel are a source of national pride. I commend the Indian Coast Guard for its steadfast dedication to national security and humanitarian efforts.
