Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on 20 August inaugurated two industrial units at the Smart Industrial Park in Pithampur, representing a combined investment of ₹850 crore in clean energy and digital infrastructure. The projects — an optical fibre manufacturing plant and a battery storage facility — are part of the state's broader drive to attract industrial capital and generate employment for its young workforce.

What Was Inaugurated

The optical fibre plant, set up by Corsis Industries across approximately 8,067 square metres, carries an annual production capacity of 5.5 million fibre-kilometres. The facility will manufacture fibre for broadband networks, 5G services, fibre-to-the-home connections, data centres, smart cities, and defence-related communication infrastructure.

The battery storage unit, established by Volters Technology over around 20,505 square metres, has a production capacity of 3 GWh. It employs automated and robotic production systems and is designed to serve renewable energy integration as well as commercial and industrial applications. Both units belong to the Pratap Group.

'The new industrial units launched today will propel a new wave of development and prosperity,' CM Yadav said at the inauguration. He stressed that industrial growth must move in step with employment generation, adding: 'Providing ample employment opportunities for the youth and strengthening the economy are the most critical needs of the times.'

Centre's Endorsement

Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who attended the event, said the two projects would advance India's clean energy and digital infrastructure goals. He noted that the battery storage plant would help meet the country's growing energy storage requirements, while the optical fibre facility would reinforce digital connectivity. Shekhawat also highlighted Madhya Pradesh's industrial potential, citing the state's availability of power, water, raw materials, and road and logistics connectivity.

Why Pithampur and Why Now

Pithampur is Madhya Pradesh's most significant industrial hub, and the commissioning of these units aligns with the state government's current emphasis on investment attraction. This comes amid a national push to localise manufacturing in sectors critical to India's energy transition and digital economy — areas where import dependence remains a concern. Notably, both the optical fibre and battery storage segments have seen accelerated policy attention at the Centre in recent years, making state-level capacity additions strategically timely.

What Comes Next

With both units now operational, attention will shift to actual employment numbers generated and production ramp-up timelines. Industry observers will also watch whether Pithampur's infrastructure — power, logistics, and water supply — can sustain the scale of output these facilities are designed for. The Madhya Pradesh government is expected to use these inaugurations as a template to attract further investment in the clean energy and digital sectors.
