New Delhi, Sep 6 (NationPress) The food processing industry in India is projected to achieve a remarkable valuation of $535 billion by FY26, driven chiefly by a surge in consumption and an increase in exports. This growth is further supported by government initiatives such as ‘Make in India’, alongside technological advancements in AI-driven automation and smart packaging, according to industry experts speaking at an event hosted by Informa Markets.
Currently valued at $1.9 billion, India’s organic food market is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.13 percent, reaching $10.8 billion by 2033. Additionally, the food ingredients segment is experiencing an annual growth rate of 7-8 percent.
These developments position India as a potential global hub for food and packaging materials.
Dr. Meenakshi Singh, Chief Scientist at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), emphasized that “food ingredients are essential to the food sector, with packaging being equally vital for ensuring safety and quality.”
The three-day event showcased over 350 exhibitors from India and around the world, drawing more than 15,000 professionals from 50 countries.
“India’s food processing sector is experiencing a transformative phase, influenced by increasing health consciousness, a growing preference for organic and plant-based foods, and significant dietary shifts,” stated Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director of Informa Markets in India.
He further noted that the organic food market is anticipated to reach Rs 75,000 crore by 2025, as consumers exhibit a greater willingness to invest in healthier options.
The food processing sector contributes 7.7 percent to the manufacturing output and supports over 7 million jobs.
Experts at the event highlighted that the FSSAI will implement stricter labelling, establish organic food standards, and boost consumer awareness by 2025, thereby influencing industry practices.
The government has introduced a new initiative named 'BHARATI' aimed at empowering 100 agri-food startups, fostering innovation, and propelling exports to a target of $50 billion by 2030.
