India's Organic Exports Projected to Hit Rs 20,000 Crore in Three Years: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) The total export value of organic farming has the potential to reach Rs 20,000 crore in the next three years, according to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal.
During his address on the 78th Independence Day last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the rising significance of organic farming globally and its extensive benefits for personal health and soil nutrient restoration.
At the launch event for the 8th edition of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) in the national capital, Minister Goyal introduced a specialized NPOP portal along with an 'Organic Promotion Portal' aimed at enhancing visibility and operational ease for stakeholders in the organic sector.
“Organic farming, as a sustainable agricultural practice, is essential for addressing water scarcity and the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides that degrade soil quality and crop productivity in our country,” the minister stated.
Goyal also acknowledged the crucial role of farmers in securing food supplies, noting a robust governmental push to advance organic farming initiatives.
“Organic farming has emerged as a national priority and is increasingly being recognized as a valuable agricultural method globally. Farmers who transition to organic practices have reported improved yields and higher incomes,” he remarked.
The event also featured the launch of TraceNet 2.0, an upgraded online traceability system designed for seamless operations and improved regulatory oversight tools.
The revamped APEDA portal was presented, offering an enhanced user experience and valuable information for stakeholders in agri and processed food sectors.
Another notable launch was the redesigned AgriXchange portal, which facilitates user-friendly data analysis and allows for the generation of reports on agricultural exports, making this information readily available to the public.
The minister further emphasized the importance of focusing on the packaging and marketing of organic products, enabling farmers to obtain fair prices for their goods. He also mentioned that this value chain could lead to job creation and elevate the country's profile on the global stage.
