India's Organic Food Exports Reach $448 Million, Poised to Exceed Previous Year's Figures

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The export of organic food products from India has hit $447.73 million in the first eight months of the fiscal year (FY25) and is expected to exceed last year's figures, as revealed in a report to Parliament on Monday.
As of November 25, the total quantity of organic food products exported stood at 263,050 metric tonnes (MT), while the overall exports for the previous fiscal year (FY24) reached $494.80 million, according to Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Navneet Singh Bittu, in a written response to the Lok Sabha.
Although the ministry has not designated any specific funds to incentivize the production of organic products, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, offers financial support to its member exporters, including those dealing in organic products, he noted.
Moreover, APEDA is executing the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), which encompasses the accreditation of certification bodies, setting standards for organic production, and promoting organic farming and marketing initiatives.
The current number of organic-certified processing units under the NPOP in India totals 1,016.
In September, APEDA formed a partnership with the global retail chain LuLu Group International (LLC) to feature a broad array of certified Indian organic products in its stores throughout the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
APEDA will facilitate connections between organic growers in India, including Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), and cooperatives, and LuLu Group, ensuring that Indian organic products reach a more extensive global market.
The authority remains committed to enhancing exports of Indian agro and processed foods. It organizes B2B exhibitions in various countries, explores new market opportunities, and collaborates closely with Indian embassies to promote natural, organic, and Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged agro-products, the minister informed the house.
