New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) - On Friday, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, met with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval to discuss the current state of bilateral relations and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

During this meeting, NSA Doval emphasized India’s steadfast commitment to a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomatic channels.

“Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Mr. Rustem Umerov, had a meeting with NSA Ajit Doval on April 17, 2026. The discussions focused on bilateral relations and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. NSA Doval reiterated India’s principled stance advocating for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy,” stated Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a post on X.

Since the outbreak of the conflict in February 2022, India has consistently promoted dialogue and diplomacy as the primary avenues for resolution.

Later that day, Umerov also met with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar.

“Pleased to meet with Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine today. We discussed our bilateral cooperation and shared insights on the Ukraine conflict,” EAM Jaishankar shared on X following their discussion.

Just last month, EAM Jaishankar had a conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, during the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in France. They exchanged views on developments in West Asia, the significance of regional stabilization, and the secure operation of vital global supply chains. They also expressed their shared commitment to enhancing bilateral relations.

“I had a productive discussion with my Indian counterpart Dr. S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the G7 ministerial meeting in France. We addressed the situation in the Middle East and underscored the importance of regional stabilization and the safe operation of critical global supply chains,” Sybiha tweeted after the meeting.

“We also coordinated future communications and reaffirmed our mutual interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation,” he added.

In December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India's commitment to peace regarding the Ukraine situation and called for a lasting resolution.

During a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in December, PM Modi stated, “From the outset, India has consistently advocated for peace concerning the situation in Ukraine. We welcome all efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution. India has always been, and will always be, ready to contribute.”
