Patna, Sep 18 (NationPress) The Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), P Kumaran, delivered an address during the joint inauguration of the East Asia Summit Knowledge Exchange Workshop focusing on Energy Efficiency Policies and Programmes - Mission LiFE and the EAS Conclave of Heads of Higher Education Institutions at Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar this Thursday.

Kumaran emphasized the necessity of promoting sustainable consumption patterns and energy-saving behaviors, thus underscoring the significance of individuals in realizing climate objectives, as highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“To fulfill India’s obligations at the East Asia Summit, Secretary (East) P. Kumaran delivered the keynote address at the joint inauguration of the EAS Knowledge Exchange Workshop on Energy Efficiency Policies and Programmes - Mission LiFE, organized by RIS New Delhi and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), along with the EAS Conclave of Heads of Higher Education Institutions hosted by Nalanda University in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs,” stated MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a post on X.

“The Secretary highlighted that the 21st century will be characterized as the Asian century and that our universities will lead the way. Regarding Mission LiFE, he stressed the importance of fostering sustainable consumption and energy-saving habits, thereby reinforcing the role of individuals in achieving climate targets, as reiterated by PM Modi,” he added.

On September 10, India expressed its constructive support for the preparations concerning the upcoming 20th East Asia Summit. During the East Asia Summit Preparatory Senior Officials’ Meeting (EAS Prep-SOM) in Port Dickson, Malaysia, MEA Secretary (East) P. Kumaran conveyed India’s support for the summit preparations.

Dato’ Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, Secretary General of Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, chaired the meeting in his capacity as the ASEAN Chair, with senior officials from EAS participating countries in attendance.

“In his intervention at the EAS Prep-SOM, the Secretary (East) expressed India’s constructive support for the upcoming 20th East Asia Summit. He also invited EAS Participating Countries to the EAS Knowledge Exchange Workshop on Energy Efficiency Policies and Programs - Mission LiFE, along with the Conclave of EAS Heads of Higher Education Institutions hosted in India at Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, as stated in an MEA announcement.
