New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) India’s exports of textiles and apparel have achieved a remarkable growth of 6.32% during the financial year that concluded on March 31, 2025, compared to the previous year, with the apparel segment being the primary driver of this growth, as reported by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).

A comprehensive analysis indicates that the increase in textile and apparel exports is predominantly propelled by apparel exports, which saw a notable rise of 10.03% during this fiscal year.

CITI Chairman Rakesh Mehra stated: "The strong performance in apparel exports, alongside steady growth in textiles in the face of global challenges, underscores the resilience, adaptability, and global competitiveness of the Indian textile and apparel sector."

He further attributed this success to the increasing momentum in establishing new trade partnerships and favorable policy measures by the government, which have bolstered confidence among exporters.

Mehra also highlighted that the industry remains hopeful about sustaining this growth trajectory, particularly given the changing global trade landscape.

"The current trade tensions between the US and China present a strategic advantage for India, especially in textile and apparel trade. With the US actively looking to diversify its sourcing options beyond China, India is well-equipped to become a trusted and preferred partner. However, this will necessitate proactive diplomacy and a concerted effort to ensure a more favorable and stable tariff environment," he noted.

In March of this year, Indian textile exports were approximately 5.81% lower compared to March 2024, while apparel exports experienced a growth of 3.97% during the same timeframe.

Cumulative textile and apparel exports for March 2025 have shown a decline of 1.63% compared to March 2024.

From April 2024 to March 2025, Indian textile exports exhibited a growth of 3.61% over the previous year, while apparel exports recorded an impressive growth of 10.03% during this period.

This growth surpassed the performance of overall merchandise exports, which remained largely stagnant during the same timeframe, according to CITI's analysis.
