Indore, March 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, paid a visit on Thursday to the families affected by the tragic fire incident in Indore, which claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two children, according to government sources.
In a post on his official X account, Chief Minister Yadav expressed, "The heartbreaking incident involving the Pugalia family in the Bengali Square colony has left us all in deep sorrow. I had the opportunity to meet with the family members today. We collectively grieve the immense loss faced by the Pugalia family. I pray to the Almighty to provide solace to the departed souls and grant the family the strength to endure this profound sorrow. An investigation is currently underway, and discussions will take place with specialists to implement necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future."
During his visit, the Chief Minister consoled Saurabh, the eldest son of the deceased Manoj Pugalia, offering his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
Saurabh informed Chief Minister Yadav that the fire in their residence was not a result of the vehicle charging process but stemmed from a short circuit at an electric pole.
Initially, the car caught fire, which subsequently ignited the motorcycle parked inside the home.
Saurabh also claimed that the fire department's response was delayed.
He stated that timely arrival of the fire-fighting units could have potentially saved some lives.
He additionally mentioned that the water tankers were empty, and one tanker driver mistakenly took a wrong turn.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the grieving family, the Chief Minister characterized the incident as "highly tragic" and noted that the state government has initiated an inquiry into the situation.
Chief Minister Yadav highlighted that the government is proactively working on strategies to improve the safety of electric vehicle (EV) charging systems and residential electrical mechanisms, ensuring public safety in the event of malfunctions.
Officials have also carried out an inspection of the site of the tragedy.
"I have reviewed the video footage of the incident. To prevent the recurrence of such calamities, we will consult with institutions like IIT among others," stated the Chief Minister.
On Wednesday, a devastating fire in a three-storey residential structure in Indore led to the deaths of eight people, including two minors, following an explosion from an electric vehicle that was being charged outside the building.
The police confirmed the identities of the deceased: Tanmay (7), Rashi Sethia (12), Simran Pugalia (30), Tinu (35), Suman Sethia (60), Vijay Sethia (65), Chhotu Sethia (22), and house owner Manoj Pugalia (65).
Kailash Vijayvargiya, a senior leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and MLA from Indore, also visited the scene on Wednesday, labeling the occurrence as alarming, particularly as society increasingly adopts electric vehicles.
