Indore, Sep 16 (NationPress) In a decisive response to a tragic road incident in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has taken significant steps by suspending nine officials, including key traffic officers and constables, who were on duty during the accident.
The suspended officials comprise Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Arvind Tiwari, Assistant Commissioner of Police Suresh Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Prem Singh, Inspector Deepak Yadav, along with four constables.
The Chief Minister has mandated an investigation into the circumstances that allowed a truck to enter a restricted area before 11 p.m. on Monday, despite existing traffic bans and police presence.
A devastating truck accident occurred on Indore's Aerodrome Road late Monday night, plunging the city into sorrow.
The speeding truck, allegedly driven under the influence of alcohol, struck a stretch of road between Ramchandra Nagar and Bada Ganpati Crossing, resulting in the death of three individuals and injuries to eleven others.
The chaos extended for nearly a kilometre, as the vehicle collided with pedestrians, motorcycles, and auto-rickshaws before igniting into flames.
Among the deceased were Laxmikant Soni, a retired professor from Medicaps University; Kailashchandra Joshi, an employee of the Indore Municipal Corporation; and Mahesh Khatwase, who later succumbed to his injuries.
The injured include a woman and her two-year-old son, alongside an elderly couple from Leeds Enclave Housing Society.
Two other victims remain in serious condition.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Yadav visited several hospitals in Indore, checking on the injured and monitoring their treatment.
He engaged with medical staff and the families of the victims, assuring them that the state government would cover all medical costs.
"This accident is profoundly heartbreaking," CM Yadav expressed in a post on X.
"I have met with the injured, assessed their treatment, and we will take every possible measure to assist them."
The Chief Minister also announced a comprehensive relief package: ₹4 lakh for each affected family, ₹1 lakh for each injured person, complete medical coverage, and educational support for children who lost their parents in this tragic event.
Support will also be provided for the repair of damaged vehicles.
Constables and civilians who aided in the rescue and emergency response will be recognized for their commendable actions.
As Indore grapples with the aftermath, the Chief Minister's swift actions and immediate relief efforts have instilled a sense of accountability and compassion.
