Indore, Sep 15 (NationPress) A devastating incident unfolded late Monday night on Aerodrome Road in Indore when a fast-moving truck lost control, crashing into a gathering of pedestrians, colliding with several vehicles, and igniting into flames.

The tragic event resulted in the death of two individuals and left 13 more injured, with many in critical condition, as reported by local police.

Witnesses recounted chaotic scenes as the truck surged through Bada Ganpati Square, dragging a motorcycle beneath it before erupting in flames.

The fire quickly consumed the front of the vehicle, sending thick smoke billowing into the night, causing panic among onlookers.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived, with fire crews battling the blaze and ambulances transporting the injured to local hospitals.

“The tragic truck accident in Indore today has deeply saddened me. After receiving detailed information about the incident, I instructed the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) to visit the site for an immediate inspection. I have also mandated a preliminary inquiry to determine how heavy vehicles were permitted to enter the city before 11 PM, aiming for accountability and preventive measures. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased, and I pray for the rapid recovery of all the injured,” Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed on his X handle.

Urban development minister Kailash Vijayavargiya also visited the hospitals to check on the injured.

“The reports of civilians injured in a road accident at Shikshak Nagar on Airport Road in Indore have deeply affected me. Upon learning of the incident, I cancelled my visit to Dhar district and rushed to Indore. I visited the hospital to meet the injured and personally assess their condition and care. Clear instructions have been issued to the district administration for swift action. We stand firmly with the affected families during this challenging time, and all necessary arrangements have been made for proper medical treatment for those injured,” he shared on his X handle, along with posted images.

Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, who visited one of the hospitals, confirmed that a few of the injured sustained minor injuries and are expected to be discharged soon.

However, several others remain under observation, with at least three reported in serious condition.

The victims encompass pedestrians, motorists, and passengers of e-rickshaws that were impacted during the incident.

Additional Police Commissioner Amit Singh reported that the truck driver has been apprehended and is currently being interrogated. Initial investigations indicate that the driver was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The driver was “not even in a state to speak” and has been sent for a medical examination. Legal action is underway, and a case has been filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (previously known as the Indian Penal Code), according to a senior police official.

This accident has reignited public concern regarding the entry of heavy vehicles into densely populated urban areas during peak hours.
