A bench led by Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf has initiated preliminary procedures, acknowledging media reports that underline the seriousness of the incident.

The court has summoned Indore Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh to appear virtually on September 23 to provide a comprehensive explanation, as confirmed by Additional Advocate General Swapnil Ganguly to IANS.

The bench is specifically seeking clarity on how a heavy truck was able to enter the city in violation of a no-entry order and travel uninterrupted to the accident location.

The judges categorized the situation as a major failure of law and order and administration, stressing that strict compliance with traffic regulations could have potentially averted this tragedy.

During the hearing, the bench articulated profound discontent over the incident, stating that the presence of stringent road safety rules renders such occurrences even more concerning.

“The occurrence of such accidents despite strict road safety regulations is alarming,” the court emphasized, highlighting the necessity for accountability and systemic change.

This case has now been transformed into a public interest litigation (PIL), indicating the court's intention to ensure a comprehensive examination and corrective actions.

Representing the state, Deputy Advocate General Ganguly assured the bench that the government is approaching the matter with the utmost seriousness.

He confirmed that measures have already been initiated and committed to presenting a detailed report on the actions taken by state authorities in the next hearing.

In a prompt response to the road accident in Indore, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav suspended nine officials, including senior traffic officers and constables who were on duty during the incident.

Among those suspended are Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Arvind Tiwari, Assistant Commissioner of Police Suresh Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Prem Singh, Inspector Deepak Yadav, and four constables.

The Chief Minister has mandated an investigation into how the truck breached a restricted area before 11 p.m. on Monday, despite the traffic restrictions and police presence.

A horrific truck accident occurred on Indore's Aerodrome Road late Monday night, plunging the city into mourning.

The speeding truck, allegedly driven under the influence of alcohol, plowed through a stretch of road between Ramchandra Nagar and Bada Ganpati Crossing, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to eleven others.

The chaos spanned nearly a kilometer as the vehicle collided with pedestrians, motorcycles, and auto-rickshaws before igniting into flames.

The deceased include Laxmikant Soni, a retired professor from Medicaps University; Kailashchandra Joshi, an employee of Indore Municipal Corporation; and Mahesh Khatwase, who succumbed to injuries during treatment.

The injured victims consist of a woman and her two-year-old son, as well as an elderly couple from Leeds Enclave Housing Society.

Two other victims remain in critical condition.

Chief Minister Yadav visited various hospitals in Indore on Tuesday to check on the injured and monitor their treatment.

He engaged with doctors and the families of victims, assuring them that the state government would cover all medical expenses related to the victims.

“This accident is profoundly heartbreaking,” CM Yadav expressed in a post on X.

“I have met with the injured, monitored their treatment, and we will do everything possible to assist them.”

The Chief Minister announced a comprehensive relief package of Rs 4 lakh for each bereaved family, Rs 1 lakh for each injured individual, full coverage of medical expenses, and educational support for children who lost parents in this tragic accident.

Support will also be offered for damaged vehicles.

Constables and civilians who assisted in rescuing victims and managing the situation will be honored for their commendable actions.

As Indore grapples with the aftermath, the Chief Minister's visit and prompt actions have fostered a sense of accountability and compassion.
