Indore, June 28 (NationPress) The police in Indore have successfully dismantled a theft gang and apprehended four individuals, including a minor, as confirmed by a senior law enforcement official on Saturday.
The suspects, identified as Lekhraj, Shubham, Rahul, and a minor, were caught in a residential area while attempting to entice passersby by offering gold and silver jewellery at discounted prices.
This gang had come under police scrutiny following a reported theft at the Dwarakapuri police station in the city.
The victim reported that both jewellery and cash were stolen from his residence.
While the Dwarkapuri police team was actively searching for the culprits, they received crucial intelligence indicating that certain individuals were selling gold jewellery at unusually low prices.
"The police were tipped off about individuals selling gold jewellery at cheap rates, leading them to a location near a residential colony under the jurisdiction of the Dwarkapuri police station, raising suspicions," stated Indore Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya.
Upon confirming the information, the police team executed a plan to capture them.
"Officers, disguised as buyers, approached them at Digvijaya multi society. Another police unit secured the area to prevent any escape," Dandotiya elaborated.
The operation was successful, resulting in the arrest of four suspects.
"One of them is a minor, and actions will be taken in accordance with the Juvenile Act. All arrested individuals have admitted their involvement in several thefts throughout the city over the past few months," the police official remarked.
Dandotiya further noted that the police recovered gold and silver jewellery valued at over Rs 3.5 lakh from the suspects.
"During the preliminary investigation, they confessed to their crimes, and further inquiries are ongoing. The police are probing various aspects of the case with the accused," he added.
