₹52,000 crore infra push underway in Hyderabad, says Telangana DyCM Vikramarka
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday, 2 October 2026, said infrastructure works worth ₹52,000 crore are progressing at pace across Hyderabad, spanning roads, flyovers, bridges, underpasses, and drinking water facilities. The announcement came during the launch of the Telangana RTC-Metro Rail Common Pass, where Vikramarka outlined the state government's comprehensive urban development roadmap.
Scale of Ongoing Projects
Of the total outlay, infrastructure projects worth ₹35,000 crore have been taken up within the limits of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), covering road widening, new flyovers, and bridge construction. Vikramarka said the government is working with a forward-looking plan that factors in Hyderabad's future growth, moving away from what he described as publicity-driven governance.
He added that the government's approach is to 'execute works and demonstrate results to the people, rather than limiting itself to mere publicity.'
Metro Rail Phase II and Regional Connectivity
Plans have been drawn up to expand Hyderabad Metro Rail by 122 kilometres under Phase II, estimated at approximately ₹38,000 crore. The expanded network will cover currently unserved areas including the Old City, the International Airport, Patancheru, and Hayathnagar.
The Regional Ring Road (RRR), spanning 362 kilometres and linking all districts of the state, has been initiated to push Hyderabad's development corridor beyond city limits. The RRR is estimated to cost ₹30,627 crore. Separately, 21 radial roads are being developed to connect the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the RRR; alignment approvals have been granted for 10 of these roads, with construction underway on two.
Musi River Rejuvenation and Water Supply
Vikramarka highlighted plans to rejuvenate the Musi River, which flows for approximately 55–56 kilometres through the city, as a priority environmental intervention aimed at improving Hyderabad's ecological quality of life. He also credited earlier Congress administrations for bringing water from the Krishna, Godavari, and Manjira rivers to the city, while criticising the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government — which held power for 10 years following Telangana's formation — for not adding a single additional source of drinking water to the city.
RTC-Metro Common Pass Launch
The newly launched RTC-Metro Common Pass system allows commuters to travel seamlessly across both the city bus and metro rail networks. Passes range from a one-day to a one-month validity. Vikramarka, along with other state ministers, purchased one-day passes for ₹500 at the event. He announced plans to personally travel on the metro from Begumpet Metro Station on Saturday morning before switching to an RTC bus to test the facility firsthand.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Ministers Vivek Venkataswamy and Azharuddin, Government Whip and MLC Addanki Dayakar, Mahender Reddy, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, and Special Chief Secretary (Transport) Vikas Raj were among those present at the event.
With multiple mega-projects at various stages of execution, the coming months will test whether Hyderabad's infrastructure ambitions translate into on-ground delivery within projected timelines and budgets.
