New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) INS Vagsheer is the sixth submarine in the Indian Navy's Kalvari-class, which is modeled on the French 'Scorpene' design. This submarine is a significant part of 'Project 75', executed through technical partnership with the French firm Naval Group.

Developed under the 'Make in India' initiative, it has seen collaboration from numerous Indian enterprises.

INS Vagsheer has built a strong reputation as a 'hunter-killer' submarine, owing to its remarkable stealth capabilities, featuring advanced acoustic absorption technology and an innovative air-independent propulsion system.

Continuing the legacy of preceding Vela-class submarines, INS Vagsheer boasts state-of-the-art technology and formidable capabilities. It incorporates stealth traits, a sophisticated weapons system, and modern sonar and sensor technologies.

Additionally, it is outfitted with radar, electronic surveillance tools, and satellite communication systems, enhancing its operational effectiveness.

With a total length of 67.5 metres and a height of 12.3 metres, only half of its structure is visible above the waterline. This submarine is set to play a vital role in bolstering the strength of the Indian Navy.

In an interview with IANS, Lieutenant Commander Ayush Gautam stated, 'I am Lieutenant Commander Ayush Gautam, and I am assigned to INS Vagsheer. My role involves supervising navigation operations onboard. This is a completely Made in India submarine, constructed and commissioned at Mazagon Dock Limited. The transportation technology was imported from France. This marks our sixth and final submarine, commissioned in 2025, with the first one commissioned in 2017.'

He elaborated, 'The warfare systems and sensors on this submarine are exceptionally advanced. Compared to submarines from other nations, it is significantly more effective and superior. In terms of navigation, it is highly advanced, as we do not receive GPS signals underwater. Our sensors and equipment are so precise that we can maintain our correct course without any issues and remain safe.'
