Itanagar, April 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, stated on Saturday that insurgency, which has plagued Assam for several decades and affected Arunachal Pradesh as well, is nearly eradicated thanks to the endeavors of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Arunachal Pradesh possesses an extensive inter-state border exceeding 804 kilometers with Assam.
While addressing a gathering during the Mopin festival in Aalo, the administrative center of the West Siang district, Khandu remarked that since Modi assumed the role of Prime Minister and Sarma became the Chief Minister of Assam, there has been a significant transformation in governance and development across the northeastern region.
He emphasized, “Assam holds a crucial position in the region. Events in Assam have repercussions for all of us.”
Khandu acknowledged Sarma's contributions in fostering peace in the region, asserting that peace is essential for development.
“With the decline of insurgency, we are witnessing remarkable developmental activities not just in Assam, but throughout all northeastern states,” noted the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
He mentioned that the ‘Advantage Assam’ initiative, implemented by Sarma's administration, is poised to be a transformative force for the region.
“As Assam is being showcased as an investment hub, it will also benefit neighboring states as investors are drawn to expand their ventures in the area,” Khandu indicated.
Pema Khandu praised Sarma as a vibrant leader in the northeast and a prominent figure in the national political landscape.
Expressing his gratitude for Sarma's participation in the Mopin festival, Khandu remarked that Sarma’s presence at Aalo, surrounded by thousands of Galos in a sea of white, demonstrates his affection for the sister state and its residents.
He also highlighted the historic ‘Namsai Declaration’ on July 15, 2022, aimed at resolving the long-standing inter-state boundary conflict between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, which was made feasible through Sarma’s proactive involvement.
“With the assistance of Himantaji, nearly all boundary disputes have been settled, except for a few areas where joint committees from both states will reconvene. We are hopeful these will be resolved swiftly as well,” Khandu added, expressing gratitude to his Assam counterpart on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Chief Executive Member of Assam’s Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, accompanied Sarma to the Aalo Mopin festivities.
In the meantime, Khandu announced a budget allocation of Rs 15 crore for the establishment of a daily market shed and Rs 10 crore for a multi-story parking facility in Aalo, the headquarters of the West Siang district.
