New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) James Lawless, the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science of Ireland, emphasized the growing relationship between India and Ireland on Monday, particularly in the realms of higher education, technology, and business collaborations.

Lawless is heading a prestigious delegation visiting New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai to further enhance cooperation between the two nations.

"This is my inaugural visit to India. This morning, I had an engaging experience at IIT Delhi with the students. The friendship between India and Ireland spans several centuries, and I believe this connection will influence the future of both nations," Lawless told IANS.

Ireland is home to a vibrant community of more than 9,000 Indian students, and as we work to strengthen educational ties with India, I eagerly anticipate meeting with Indian universities and educational institutions to explore opportunities for expanding post-study pathways and cultivating deeper research partnerships between our two countries," he added.

The visiting minister acknowledged the "immense potential" in creating a strong academic and talent ecosystem that benefits both nations.

Lawless noted that Ireland is also experiencing increased collaboration with Indian companies in innovation, R&D, and emerging technologies, especially in MedTech, fintech, AI, and life sciences.

"As global businesses seek highly skilled talent and research-driven ecosystems, Ireland continues to provide Indian companies with cutting-edge opportunities for growth and innovation," he stated.

Lawless' visit signifies a crucial milestone in the Ireland-India relationship, reaffirming Ireland's role as a reliable partner for India's economic, academic, and technological aspirations.

Earlier on Monday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Jaishankar extended his greetings to his Irish counterpart and the people of Ireland on their National Day.

"My recent visit was a chance to renew our bonds and strengthen our ties," EAM Jaishankar posted on X.
