Kochi, Feb 20 (NationPress) In what is suspected to be a family suicide, the remains of three individuals were discovered at the official customs quarters in Kochi on Thursday night.
The deceased have been recognized as Manish Agarwal, an IRS official hailing from Jharkhand, along with his sister Shalini and their elderly mother Shakunthala.
Manish was part of the 2011 IRS batch and held a prominent position at the GST Commissioner's office in this region.
His sister Shalini had been residing with her brother and mother for several months.
The bodies of the brother and sister were discovered hanging, while the mother was found lying on her bed.
Manish was known to be a reserved individual and had spent the past decade working in Kerala at various customs and GST offices, recently assuming his current role in Kochi.
Reports indicate that Shalini had achieved a high rank in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission examinations the previous year.
As the customs quarters are not open to the local community, the compound is typically visited only by residents.
Neighbors noted that only Manish's mother was occasionally seen outside.
According to colleagues, Manish had taken six days of leave but did not return to work after his leave period ended. Concerned colleagues visited his home on Thursday evening and, detecting a foul odor, alerted the police.
Upon police arrival, the front door was forcefully opened. The local authorities have initiated an investigation into the case of unnatural death.
A forensic team has also arrived, and an inquest will be conducted, with the bodies sent for post-mortem examination.
Senior officials from Customs and GST have also arrived on the scene.
