New York, Sep 26 (NationPress) Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani has expressed that his nation is in favor of an expedited conclusion to the Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union.
Following a meeting on Thursday with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, he stated on X, “I reaffirmed Italy's commitment to a swift finalization of the Free Trade Agreement.”
He added, “Italy and India maintain a strategic partnership, both politically and economically, which we aim to enhance with my forthcoming visit to India in the coming months.”
“India is a priority country in our #PianoExport,” he remarked, using the Italian term 'piano' meaning 'plan'.
“This is why I announced the ‘India’ measure (commitment) of 500 million euros to bolster our exporting firms,” he further mentioned.
Jaishankar later tweeted, “We analyzed the developments in the Mediterranean, Middle East, Ukraine, and Indo-Pacific. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations.”
Among the dignitaries he met on Thursday was Yvette Cooper, who recently took on the role of British Foreign Secretary following a Cabinet reshuffle this month.
He indicated that discussions were held regarding the follow-up from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Britain in July, during which the India-UK Vision 2035 was unveiled.
This vision serves as a ten-year roadmap for collaboration between the nations, alongside their Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
The framework addresses Defence cooperation, job creation, the development of advanced technologies, and educational partnerships.
EAM Jaishankar also engaged with Foreign Ministers including Penny Wong of Australia, Carlos Ramiro Martínez of Guatemala, Badr Abdelatty of Egypt, Mohamad Haji Hasan of Malaysia, Arnoldo André of Costa Rica, and Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez of Panama.
