Amaravati, Sep 18 (NationPress) YSR Congress Party leader and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of betraying countless poor women by revoking the house site pattas that were issued by the previous administration under the Pedalandariki Illu initiative.
YS Jagan emphasized that this anti-poor action would face resistance at every turn and assured that the YSRCP will combat it through both legal and political avenues.
In a post shared on the social media platform 'X', he reminded followers that during his five years in office, a groundbreaking housing program was initiated to provide house sites to all eligible impoverished families.
Ultimately, a total of 31,19,000 pattas were granted in the names of female beneficiaries, encompassing 71,800 acres of land.
The government allocated Rs 11,871 crore for land acquisition, while the market value of these parcels was estimated to exceed Rs 1,50,000 crore. Each site, as he noted, was valued between Rs 2,50,000 and Rs 15,00,000, thereby securing real asset ownership for countless families.
The YSRCP claimed its government authorized 21,75,000 houses, creating 17,005 colonies statewide. Despite challenges posed by Covid, over 9,00,000 houses were completed. On October 12, 2023, an unprecedented 7,43,000 houses were inaugurated in a single day, establishing a national record. Beneficiaries also received subsidized cement, steel, free sand, and interest-free loans, providing an additional benefit of Rs. 2,70,000 per family, along with central grants.
In stark contrast, Jagan stated that the current TDP-led coalition has failed to construct a single house in 16 months or acquire even an acre of land for housing. Instead, it has opted to revoke pattas granted to the poor and redirect prime lands towards private industrial parks, revealing its pro-rich, anti-poor agenda.
"This is merely a government of cancellations, not one of welfare. The poor empowered Chandrababu, expecting support rather than betrayal. YSRCP will not stand idly by. We will legally and politically advocate for the rights of every poor family whose dream of homeownership is under siege," Jagan proclaimed.
