Jaipur, April 9 (NationPress) A newly sanctioned 41-kilometre North-South metro corridor stretching from Prahladpura to Todi Mod is set to transform Jaipur’s public transport under Phase-II of the metro initiative. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has hailed this corridor as the city’s essential lifeline, linking vital industrial and residential areas from Sitapura to VKIA, thereby promoting safe, efficient, and user-friendly transport options.
The ambitious project, with an estimated budget exceeding Rs 13,037 crore, will feature 36 stations and will be carried out by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a collaborative venture equally supported by the central and state governments, as per official statements.
According to Sharma, “This corridor will serve as Jaipur’s lifeline, facilitating connections between key industrial and residential zones from Sitapura to VKIA, ensuring safe, efficient, and convenient transport for residents.”
The infrastructure will enhance connectivity to significant locations, encompassing the Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar. Plans include underground stations in the airport vicinity to foster an integrated metro framework.
At present, Jaipur Metro’s Phase I covers 11.64 km from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar with 11 stations. The forthcoming phase is expected to vastly improve connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and fortify Jaipur’s urban transport system. Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the Jaipur Metro Phase-II, alongside the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs which sanctioned the revised cost for the Pachpadra Refinery.
The new corridor will ensure seamless access to critical locations such as the Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, Ambabari, and Vidhyadhar Nagar, with planned underground stations in the airport zone for an integrated metro network.
Additionally, the Cabinet Committee has greenlit a revised expenditure of Rs 79,459 crore for the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery at Pachpadra.
Sharma noted that the refinery project would stimulate industrial growth and create over 25,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly contributing to the economic development of the state.
The Chief Minister referred to these decisions as historic, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, asserting that they would fast-track the state's comprehensive development.
