New Delhi, Sep 7 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh celebrated the third anniversary of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Sunday, labeling it a transformative milestone in Indian political history.
In a post on the social media platform X, Ramesh shared, “The Bharat Jodo Yatra commenced three years ago today in Kanyakumari, with a visit to the Swami Vivekananda rock memorial and other significant sites, culminating in a public gathering.”
“The Yatra aimed to address three crucial issues: widening economic disparities, increasing social polarization, and escalating political authoritarianism. This remarkable 4,000 km padyatra was led by @RahulGandhi and over 200 Bharat Yatris, who walked from Kanyakumari to Kashmir for more than 145 days, traversing 12 states and 2 Union Territories. It marked a transformative milestone in our nation’s political landscape, continuing to resonate and echo,” he stated.
The Congress party noted that the movement was designed to unite citizens against the divisive politics of the BJP-led Government of India. Launched by Rahul Gandhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on September 7, 2022, the foot march witnessed Rahul Gandhi covering over 4,000 km in 145 days.
Throughout the Yatra, Gandhi engaged in numerous large public meetings, street-corner gatherings, and press conferences.
The initiative garnered participation from citizens from various walks of life.
Prominent film and television personalities such as Kamal Haasan, Pooja Bhatt, Riya Sen, and Swara Bhasker joined the march at different points.
Additionally, the movement received support from opposition leaders, including Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah from the National Conference, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Aaditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut, along with NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule.
Congress leaders assert that the Bharat Jodo Yatra transcends mere political activity; it is a people's movement focused on uniting citizens and raising awareness about inequality, communal harmony, and democratic values.
