Jammu, April 12 (NationPress) A member of the Defence Security Corps (DSC), who was severely injured when an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operated by the army crashed during a surveillance mission at an airfield in Jammu, passed away due to his injuries in a military hospital.

According to officials, Naik Surender, hailing from Kathua district, was performing his duties at a tower at the technical airport on Thursday. He sustained critical burn injuries after the UAV collided with the tower during landing at the technical airport in Satwari, igniting a fire and disintegrating into multiple fragments upon impact.

The technical airport serves as part of the Jammu airport, specifically designated for operations involving the Indian Air Force’s helicopter unit.

Officials confirmed that the soldier was transported to a military hospital in Satwari, but tragically succumbed to his injuries on Friday. His remains are being sent back to his hometown for the final rites.

The police have initiated an inquiry under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), as reported by officials.

Previously, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the army, identified as Subedar Kuldeep Chand from the 9 Punjab regiment, lost his life while thwarting an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keri-Battal area of Akhnoor sector in Jammu district.

The Army’s White Knight Corps expressed their condolences on X, stating: “GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks honor the ultimate sacrifice of Sub Kuldeep Chand of 9 Punjab. He gave his life while courageously leading a counter-infiltration operation along the line of control in the Keri-Battal area of Sunderbani on the night of April 11, 2025.”

“His team’s bravery, coupled with Kuldeep’s ultimate sacrifice, thwarted a terrorist infiltration attempt. We stand united with the grieving family during this time of sorrow,” the army added.

Additionally, in an ongoing counter-terrorism operation that has lasted for three days in the Kishtwar district of the Jammu division, three terrorists were neutralized, including the commander of the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) group, Saifullah.
