The ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra’ situated near RIMS has emerged as a beacon of hope for numerous patients grappling with exorbitant medication expenses.

This government-operated centre offers quality generic medications at prices that are 50 to 90 percent lower than those of branded alternatives found in typical pharmacies. For economically disadvantaged and middle-class families visiting the major hospital for treatment, this means they can afford the medications prescribed by their doctors without straining their finances.

The centre maintains a substantial inventory of commonly used medicines for ailments like fever, pain, and infections. It also stocks essential drugs for chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, and other serious health issues. Surgical supplies, including bandages, are available at budget-friendly prices. Users of the centre report that these medications perform just as effectively as their pricier counterparts, providing them with peace of mind regarding quality.

In an interview with IANS, Lal Prasad, a recent visitor, expressed his relief. He required several medications and managed to purchase everything for just Rs 78. He conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating this scheme that simplifies healthcare access for ordinary citizens.

Another patron, Amar Lal Prasad, shared his first-time experience at the centre, noting satisfaction with both the low costs and the attentive service. He remarked that the prices were significantly lower compared to other local shops where similar medications were sold at much higher rates.

Dev Oraon, who visited the pharmacy to collect his prescriptions, also shared a positive experience. He stated that the prices at the Jan Aushadhi Kendra were exceptionally affordable. He illustrated that the same three medications would have cost him significantly more in the open market, but he acquired them all for only Rs 62 here.

Jaideep, the manager of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra, spoke with IANS about the centre's operations. He mentioned that nearly all the medications prescribed in the outpatient department are available at the Kendra, although some specialized drugs for surgical procedures are not stocked.

He emphasized that patients undergoing long-term treatments realize substantial savings by purchasing their medications from this centre. He affirmed the excellent quality of generic medicines and noted that the scheme is a genuine blessing for low-income families. Daily, around 1,500 economically disadvantaged patients visit the outpatient department at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, and for many, the nearby Jan Aushadhi Kendra has become a crucial source of relief.
