Srinagar, Nov 17 (NationPress) A dry fruit vendor from the Qazigund region of Jammu and Kashmir has tragically succumbed to severe burn injuries sustained during a self-immolation attempt. This occurred after he was released from police custody related to an investigation into a white collar terror module.
According to officials, the individual passed away at a hospital in Srinagar. The man, identified as Bilal Ahmad Wani, attempted self-immolation on Sunday, and due to his deteriorating condition, he was transferred from a local hospital in Anantnag to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar late on Sunday.
He ultimately succumbed to his injuries around 12:30 a.m. on Monday. Bilal and his son, Jasir Bilal, were detained by police for inquiries related to the ongoing terror module investigation.
While Bilal was released afterward, his son remains in custody for further questioning.
Bilal was a neighbor of Dr. Muzaffar Rather, who has been identified as a principal suspect in the 'white collar terror module' case.
Currently, Dr. Muzaffar Rather is believed to be in Afghanistan; his younger brother, Dr. Adeel Rather, was apprehended in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on November 6.
Police also detained two overground workers from the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) organization, leading to the capture of Dr. Adil Rather from Saharanpur. An AK-47 rifle was discovered in Dr. Adil’s locker at the Government Medical College in Anantnag; he left his position at Anantnag Medical College in October 2024.
Dr. Adeel directed investigators to Dr. Muzammil Ganaie in Faridabad, who was found with 2,900 kg of explosive material. Muzammil, a Pulwama native, had previously collaborated with Rather at the Al Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Center and has also been arrested.
One of Muzammil’s terror associates, Dr. Umar Nabi, managed to evade capture but subsequently died in a car explosion in the Red Fort area of Delhi on November 10, which claimed 13 lives and injured many others.
