Srinagar, Jan 10 (NationPress) The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Saturday that they have initiated action against unregistered hotels, guesthouses, and homestays operating in Srinagar.
According to a police statement, "The Srinagar Police, in collaboration with the Tourist Police Station, undertook a verification and inspection operation throughout the city to ensure that homestays, hotels, and guesthouses comply with the established legal standards.
During this operation, multiple establishments were discovered to be functioning without the necessary registration from the appropriate authorities.
These included hotels such as Essar, ABC Residency, Gani, and Aksa, along with homestays like Al Habib, Golden Moon, and Divine Holiday. Fines were levied against those violating the law by operating without compulsory registration. Furthermore, preventive measures under Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) will be initiated against the proprietors of all such unregistered facilities," it stated.
The Srinagar Police have urged all owners and operators of homestays, hotels, and guesthouses to strictly adhere to the outlined legal requirements and ensure timely registration with the relevant authorities to avoid legal repercussions.
Such verification and enforcement initiatives will persist in the future to guarantee compliance with regulations and to foster a safe, lawful, and responsible tourism environment in the district, the statement further noted.
In December 2025, a hotel and a homestay in Srinagar faced legal action for not notifying the authorities about the stay of an Israeli national and other foreign guests, as mandated by the Form-C submission rules.
It is permissible for foreign nationals, including Israelis, to stay in hotels in Srinagar, provided that the accommodation facilities adhere to the government's mandatory reporting obligations. Mandatory Form-C: All hotels, guesthouses, houseboats, and homestay operators in India are required to submit an online Form-C to the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) within 24 hours of a foreign guest's arrival.
