Jammu, Feb 7 (NationPress) - On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the passion for visiting Jammu and Kashmir among tourists nationwide remains strong, notwithstanding the tense circumstances triggered by last year's Pahalgam attack.
“The excitement of tourists from all over India to explore Jammu and Kashmir has not waned. There is an imperative need for vigorous promotion of J&K’s tourist spots in other states to fully capitalize on the tourism opportunities available here,” Shah emphasized.
The Home Minister mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government is committed to providing all necessary support in the initiative to develop new tourist locales in J&K.
On the same day, Amit Shah led a development assessment meeting to evaluate the advancement of various projects in J&K. The meeting took place at Lok Bhawan in Jammu and was attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, J&K Chief Secretary, and DGP Nalin Prabhat, among others.
On April 22, 2025, the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) targeted tourists at the renowned Pahalgam hill resort, resulting in the tragic loss of 26 lives and posing a severe challenge to J&K’s tourism sector.
Earlier on Saturday, Amit Shah convened with senior BJP leaders, stating on X, “Today, I engaged in discussions in Jammu with state office-bearers, MLAs, and MPs from @BJP4JnK. The BJP will persist in its efforts to ensure the effective implementation of Modiji’s development programs at the ground level while expanding the party to fulfill the vision of a ‘Developed and Secure Jammu & Kashmir’.”
On Friday, Amit Shah visited the International Border in Kathua district, where he interacted with BSF personnel and praised their dedication to safeguarding the nation's borders. He advocated for the incorporation of modern technology alongside human resources to bolster vigilance at the border.
He also paid tribute to the martyrs of the J&K Police force and engaged with their families during a meeting where he distributed appointment letters to the next of kin of the fallen heroes.
This marked Amit Shah’s second security review meeting in J&K within a month.
On January 8, he conducted a security review meeting concerning J&K in New Delhi. The Union Home Minister has instructed security forces to adopt a mission-oriented strategy to neutralize anti-state elements in J&K and restore complete tranquility.
Amit Shah concluded his three-day visit to J&K and departed for Chhattisgarh in the evening.
