Jasvir Singh Garhi, Ex-BSP Chief of Punjab, Joins AAP

Chandigarh, Jan 1 (NationPress) Jasvir Singh Garhi, the former President of the Punjab Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), made a significant political move by joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday, accompanied by his supporters.

The Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, warmly welcomed him into the party and reaffirmed AAP's commitment to social justice and inclusive governance.

Joining Garhi were the former general secretaries of BSP, Jaspreet Singh and Gurlal Saila. The event also saw the presence of MLAs Kulwant Singh Pandori and Sukhwinder Sukhi.

During the welcoming ceremony, CM Bhagwant Mann stated, “The Aam Aadmi Party is committed to upholding the principles of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram-ji. Together, we will work towards achieving justice, equality, and opportunities for all segments of society.”

Garhi expressed his feelings to the media, saying, “I remained silent regarding the decisions of my previous party for the past two months, hoping they would reflect and amend their errors. Instead, I felt a sense of betrayal, akin to political assassination, much like the treatment of numerous leaders who supported Kanshi Ram-ji.”

He emphasized AAP's allegiance to the ideologies of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram, crediting MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi for guiding him. “Dr Sukhi demonstrated that only the Aam Aadmi Party can genuinely propagate Ambedkar's legacy into every home. Under Arvind Kejriwal's leadership, AAP has been distributing calendars featuring Ambedkar-ji’s image in Delhi, and now, 50,000 government offices in Punjab showcase Dr Ambedkar's portrait.”

Previously, BSP supremo Mayawati had ousted Garhi from his position as the state party president due to indiscipline in November last year. He was succeeded by Avtar Singh Karimpuri, who has returned for a second term after previously serving from 2014-2016.

A resident of Garhi Kanugo village in Nawanshahr, Garhi had contested for the Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha seat, but faced defeat.
