JD-U Remains Silent on Candidates for Bihar's Rajya Sabha Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 4 (NationPress) As the deadline for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections approaches, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) has yet to disclose its candidates, igniting speculation throughout Bihar's political landscape.
Vijay Kumar Choudhary, a senior leader of JD-U, stated in Patna on Wednesday evening that the candidate names would be confirmed on Thursday.
"Nitish Kumar serves as the Chief Minister of Bihar, and he will have the final say on the candidate's name. His decision is absolute. He is the paramount leader of JD-U, and we will uphold his choice,” Choudhary remarked during a media interaction.
When asked about Nishant Kumar's potential formal induction into the party, Choudhary hinted that talks were at an advanced stage.
"All party members and leaders are in favor of Nishant Kumar joining the party. He is youthful and possesses strong leadership qualities. He is already linked with JD-U; it’s merely a technicality for him to make it official,” he explained, asking for patience until the final announcement.
There is rampant speculation that Nishant Kumar, the son of Nitish Kumar, could be nominated for the Rajya Sabha.
Party supporters have long been advocating for his active participation in politics.
Political analysts suggest that if Nishant Kumar does not secure a spot in the Upper House, Nitish Kumar might seek a Rajya Sabha seat himself, potentially opening doors for a larger national role.
Some discussions even suggest that Nishant Kumar is being prepared for a leadership position within Bihar’s political arena.
The elections are set to fill five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar.
Within the NDA coalition, the situation seems largely settled.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already named Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar Ram as its candidates.
Additionally, Upendra Kushwaha from the Rashtriya Lok Morcha has been designated as the NDA's fifth candidate.
Despite having 19 MLAs, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has not secured a seat this election cycle, reportedly causing some discontent within the alliance.
On the Opposition front, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is anticipated to unveil his party's candidate on March 5.
