Ranchi, March 10 (NationPress) A political uproar has ignited in Jharkhand due to the recent rise in crime across the state. Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta asserted on Monday that numerous incidents are being orchestrated from within prison walls.
“Jharkhand Police will implement stringent measures against such criminals and their outside accomplices. Several inmates have already been relocated to different jails,” he stated.
In a media briefing outside the Assembly, DGP Gupta pointed out three significant gangs—led by Aman Sahu, Aman Srivastava, and Vikas Tiwari—as the brains behind various criminal activities in the state.
“Even while incarcerated, they persist in plotting crimes using virtual international numbers for WhatsApp communications. The police are monitoring their activities, though we face some technical hurdles,” he explained.
He mentioned that an FIR was filed on Sunday against 30 associates of Aman Sahu under Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). ATS SP Rishabh Jha has been instructed to apprehend all implicated individuals and ensure their swift imprisonment.
Regarding a recent shooting involving a businessman in Ranchi, the DGP confirmed that the perpetrators have been identified and will be captured shortly. “Raids are ongoing, and we anticipate resolving the case within two to three days,” he assured.
On the murder of NTPC Deputy General Manager Kumar Gaurav in Hazaribagh, he conceded that a clear motive has yet to be established. “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently examining the case, with continuous raids being conducted,” he remarked.
The DGP’s comments sparked a strong backlash from BJP leader and Ranchi MLA C.P. Singh, who addressed the matter in the Assembly during Zero Hour.
“Life in Jharkhand has become exceedingly perilous. The government is ignoring the escalating crime rates,” Singh stated.
Criticizing the DGP’s remarks, he added, “How can law enforcement shamelessly claim that crimes are being schemed from inside prisons? Are these jails situated outside of Jharkhand? If criminals are managing operations from prison, why aren’t they being interrogated on remand? No one is safe—neither MLAs, nor Ministers, nor the general public. The government must be held accountable for this lawlessness.”
